Today's Readings (Genesis 22: 15 -18)
“And said, “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,”
These three S words come to play as I reflect on this loaded Bible text.
1. SOVEREIGNTY - The sovereignty of God because there is none more powerful for Him to swear by except HIMSELF (Gye Nyame).
2. SACRIFICE - Abraham sacrificed his only begotten (take a minute to reflect on how he begot his son Isaac after soo many years of barrenness) - CAN YOU MAKE SUCH A SACRIFICE?? Are you giving your most valuable to the Lord?
3. SURETY - We can have confidence to believe in God's promises, because they are certain (NEVER FAIL). This is established in t he book of Numbers 23:19 that God is not man that He should lie. Neither is He the son of man to change his mind. Has He said anything that he did not do??
Consequently, my Summary of this text is:
IF WE FULLY TRUST IN THE SOVEREIGNTY OF OUR GOD, AND OBEDIENTLY SACRIFICE OUR MOST VALUABLE OFFERINGS TO HIM, WE WILL EXPERIENCE THE SURETY OF HIS PROMISED BLESSINGS.
MHB 516, stanza 5
Then in fellowship sweet, we will sit at His feet, or we’ll walk by His side in the way; What He says we will do, Where He sends, we will go- Never fear, only trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be, happy in Jesus, But to trust and obey.
