ARE YOU READY FOR THE THORNS
You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” they answered. (Mathew 20:22)
Though the Bible admonishes us about covetousness, we still engage in this vice. It is very funny how some people think it is easy to sit where someone else is sitting, and have what someone else has, but I say;
Wait till you wear my shoes!!!
You want the GRACE, but not the grass.
You want the GAINS, but not the pain.
You want the PRIZE, but not the perspiration.
You want the GLORY, but not the shame.
You want to SLAY, but not to serve.
Dearly Beloved Friend,
The secret key to that position you are eyeing is: SELFLESS SERVICE! SERVICE TO GOD AND MANKIND.
The Bible confirms this in the words of our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 20:26-27: "Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave." Wanting that position isn't wrong. James and John wanted it too. They asked Jesus directly for the seats of honor (Matthew 20:20-21). What matters is the motive behind the ask, and the readiness behind the wanting. Are you reaching for the seat to serve? or reaching for the seat to be served. Are you reaching for the seat for the Master's glorification, or for self glorification?
The roses in my Dear Dover's garden are beautiful, sweet and dazzling. What we often fail to consider is how she sacrifices and expends a lot of her resources (Time, Money, and Energy) to till the land, water, and sometimes even sing for them, as well as the many times she has to endure the scratches from the thorns.
All we want are roses, but really, are we ready for the thorns that come with it?
MHB 572: 4
Here then to Thee Thy own I leave;
Mould as thou wilt thy passive clay;
But let me all thy stamp receive,
But let me all thy words obey,
Serve with a single heart and eye,
And to thy glory live and die.
